A look at the injury situations shaping Week 1 fantasy lineups, based on the latest training camp and preseason reports.
Quarterbacks
Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs) is working back from a torn ACL but hasn’t missed practice time and looks on track to start Week 1, though some of his early rushing production may be capped.
Running Backs
Several backfields are shaking out under injury pressure. Ashton Jeanty (Raiders) is dealing with a low-grade ankle sprain that leaves his Week 1 status uncertain, opening the door for Mike Washington Jr. in relief. Breece Hall (Jets) will miss 2-3 weeks with a groin strain but is targeting a return for the season opener; handcuff Braelon Allen accordingly. Chuba Hubbard (Panthers) is playing through a hamstring issue and should suit up Week 1, but a timeshare with Jonathon Brooks trims him to flex/RB3 territory. Kyle Monangai (Bears) is dealing with a hyperextended knee and could miss multiple weeks, putting his own Week 1 outlook in doubt.
Wide Receivers
The receiver injury news is more severe this week. Jayden Higgins (Texans) suffered a torn ACL and has already been ruled out for the entire 2026 season, clearing extra opportunities for Dell, Noel and Hutchinson in Houston’s receiving corps. Jordyn Tyson (Saints) is expected to miss roughly two months with a hamstring injury and looks headed for a season-opening IR stint. Ricky Pearsall (49ers) is done for the year after PCL surgery. On the brighter side, Malik Nabers (Giants) is back to practicing in a limited capacity on a knee injury and remains on track for Week 1.
Tight Ends
George Kittle (49ers) has been activated off the PUP list following his Achilles injury and looks ahead of schedule, giving him some Week 1 upside. Tucker Kraft (Packers) is progressing well in his return from a torn ACL, though his snap count may be managed early in the season.
We’ll keep tracking these situations as final roster decisions and Week 1 injury designations come in throughout the week.
