A quieter overnight news cycle, but the Cardinals’ backfield picture behind Jeremiyah Love just got a lot clearer now that Trey Benson is off the roster entirely. Elsewhere, the Eagles and Jets both start the season down a depth piece, and Washington got a small piece of good news at backup quarterback.
Week 1 Status At a Glance

🟢 Likely to play · 🟡 Questionable / trending unclear · 🔴 Out or unlikely to play next week.
Running Backs
🔴 Out — Trey Benson (ARI): Benson, the Cardinals’ 2024 third-round pick, was waived during cutdown week after a knee injury wiped out most of his 2025 season and lingered through this camp, and he did not stick with the team in any capacity. With James Conner already on IR and rookie Jeremiyah Love himself nursing an ankle sprain, Benson’s exit removes the only other established option from Arizona’s backfield mix. That leaves free-agent addition Tyler Allgeier as the clear, uncontested backup the moment Love needs a breather — or needs to sit entirely if his ankle isn’t ready in time for the opener. Fantasy Action: Add Tyler Allgeier now in all leagues where you roster Jeremiyah Love; he’s no longer competing with Benson for the direct handcuff job, he simply has it.
🔴 Out — Chip Trayanum (NYJ): The Jets placed Trayanum on injured reserve with a neck injury that will keep him out for the entire 2026 season. He was buried on New York’s depth chart behind Breece Hall and Braelon Allen even before the injury, so this doesn’t change the fantasy picture at the position. Fantasy Action: No action needed — Hall and Allen remain the only Jets backs worth rostering.
Tight Ends
🔴 Out — Grant Calcaterra (PHI): Calcaterra will start the season on injured reserve with a back injury, designated to return later in the year. He was Philadelphia’s TE2 behind Dallas Goedert, so the immediate on-field impact is minimal. Fantasy Action: No action needed — Goedert remains the only fantasy-relevant tight end in the Eagles’ offense regardless.
Quarterbacks
🟢 Likely — Marcus Mariota (WAS): Mariota returned to practice Monday after working through an MCL issue, a positive sign for Washington’s QB room heading into the final two weeks before the opener. He remains strictly a backup behind Jayden Daniels. Fantasy Action: No action needed outside of deep 2-QB or superflex formats.
The news cycle should pick back up considerably this week as teams file their first Week 1 practice reports; Nabers, Love and the rest of Monday’s uncertain names should get real clarity by Wednesday through Friday.
