Houston made it official Tuesday: Tank Dell will start the 2026 season on injured reserve, the latest twist in a Texans receiver room that has already been reshaped several times this summer. It’s a move that was more about caution than a setback, but it still has real fantasy implications heading into Week 1.

Tank Dell (HOU): Dell has been working back from the serious knee injury he suffered late in the 2024 season, a recovery that cost him the entire 2025 campaign. He returned to practice in August and had been running routes and taking part in live team drills, but general manager Nick Caserio said Monday that the team ultimately wasn’t ready to trust him in game action just yet. Caserio pointed to both the physical and mental side of the recovery, saying Dell “is not quite there, which is why he’s in the category that he’s in,” and that the staff wants him to have enough confidence to perform the way he’s capable of once he is activated. Per beat reporters, Dell will be eligible to return after Houston’s first four games. Fantasy Action: Drop Dell in most redraft formats for now — the four-game minimum absence makes him a Week 5-or-later add at best, and only worth a bench stash in deeper dynasty leagues banking on a second-half role.

Ripple effects in Houston’s receiver room: Dell’s IR stint compounds an already thin group. Rookie Jayden Higgins is already out for the season after tearing his ACL in training camp, and Houston responded by trading for Kayshon Boutte earlier this summer to add a proven target alongside Nico Collins. With both Dell and Higgins sidelined to open the year, look for snaps to funnel toward Boutte, Jaylin Noel, and Xavier Hutchinson behind Collins as the clear WR1. Fantasy Action: Boutte is the more interesting speculative add in PPR formats given his trade acquisition and clearer role, while Noel and Hutchinson are deeper-league watches worth monitoring through the rest of camp and into Week 1 practice reports.

None of this threatens Nico Collins’ standing as Houston’s clear top target, but it’s a receiver room worth checking in on again once final Week 1 roles start to sort themselves out in practice.
