Isaiah Davis Injury Clouds Jets Backfield as Chase, Higgins Push Through Practice Limits, Jeanty Trending Up

Wednesday’s practice reports brought a fresh round of fantasy-relevant news with Week 1 closing in. A Jets backfield piece goes down for a couple of weeks, two Bengals stars worked through limitations, and the Raiders got an encouraging signal on their rookie back.

Running Backs

Jets running back Isaiah Davis is expected to be sidelined for a couple of weeks with a knee injury, according to beat reporters. Davis had worked his way into a clear No. 2 role behind Breece Hall over the summer, so losing him right before the opener is a real subtraction from New York’s backfield depth. With Davis out, Braelon Allen — who sat atop the backup spot on the Jets’ initial depth chart — becomes the obvious next man up and the more relevant handcuff to Hall in fantasy formats for the time being.

In Las Vegas, Ashton Jeanty’s ankle situation is trending in a better direction. The rookie worked off to the side at Tuesday’s practice, and the coaching staff has indicated the team is counting on him being available for the season opener. His practice participation is still worth tracking closely over the next several days, but this is a clear step up from the uncertainty surrounding his timeline earlier in the week.

Wide Receivers

Bengals wideouts Ja’Marr Chase (knee) and Tee Higgins (heel) were both limited in practice this week, per beat reporters covering the team. Cincinnati has continued to express confidence that both will be available for Week 1 despite the practice limitations, consistent with recent messaging out of the building. Fantasy managers should still keep an eye on Friday’s final injury report before locking in lineups, but nothing so far suggests either receiver is trending toward missing the opener.

We’ll continue tracking practice reports and any new roster moves as teams finalize their Week 1 plans.
